Citizen Defend Yourself
It was Albert Einstein who said “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” The world has always been a dangerous place. However, it seems comparing the world of my youth, (1950’s through the 1960’s) to the world of today’s youth it has become significantly more dangerous. I am certain my grandchildren will not inherit the world or freedoms I knew. Violence used against responsible law abiding citizens is in the news almost daily, even in “small town” America. Mr. Einstein’s quotation may have been directed at politicians who cannot legislate safety. Perhaps he was referring to the law enforcement groups for failing to prevent violent crime. It seems to me society is asking law enforcement to get more done with less resources; an impossible task.
So, was Mr. Einstein implying that the private citizens had a responsibility to protect themselves and their families? It is not an illogical implication. It seems rather constitutional. Today, it is quite possible the private citizen could be forced to be the first responder in defense, and quite possibly in first aid.
